C03 - The influence of weight and weight loss on homeostatic, mnestic and reward-related brain circuits in older adults

Overweight is a risk factor for cognitive decline in the elderly. This project investigates age-effects on cognition and neural circuits underlying hedonic, motivational and mnestic alterations in overweight as well as the influence of a 3-months caloric restriction diet in older overweight subjects. In addition, intranasally administered insulin will be combined with high-resolution fMRI to evaluate effects of age, weight and weight loss on the sensitivity of target subregions to central insulin stimulation. Overall, the project aims to identify causes and consequences of overweight in the elderly as well as predictive factors for intervention success.
