C02 - Tracking the response to food items in subcortical brain structures by invasive electrophysiology in humans

We will record from electrodes placed into subcortical structures (hypothalamus, nucleus accumbens) for the alleviation of different neuropsychiatric disorders to track their responses in paradigms related to the regulation of food intake. Specifically, we will investigate the response to pictures of high and low caloric food in different states, to tastes of favorite and despised food, to food stimuli presented outside of the attentional focus (to assess incentive salience), and during the decision and waiting periods in intertemporal choice tasks. This work will provide a detailed picture of the response characteristics of subcortical structures during the regulation of food intake.
