A03 - Metabolic modulation of a central reward circuit

To better understand and counteract metabolic disorders such as obesity and type 2 diabetes, strong efforts are being made to define the central control mechanisms that regulate body weight and energy homeostasis. There is increasing evidence that hormones and nutrient signals, which affect homeostatic circuits in the hypothalamus, might also directly modulate dopaminergic neurons in the reward system. Our goal is to reveal the cellular mechanisms by which the peripheral metabolic state modulates central reward processing in midbrain dopaminergic neurons.
